Festival: ‘Speculum Artium.10, new media culture’ in Slovenia

Text by CLOT Magazine

Speculum Artium festival, a festival on new media culture, art, science and technology-based in Slovenia, is celebrating its 10th years anniversary. Speculum Artium will be held in the Cultural institution Delavski dom Trbovlje from 13 to 15 September 2018.

The aim of the festival is to inform youth and adults about the new media culture of the 21st century, and under this premise, this year’s theme lies on the concept of “DECADES” and  “the Humanisation of Technology”.

Artificial life has become an important field of scientific research, the basic foundation of which is using computer systems for creating life simulations and the principles of inorganic organisms. The question arises about what it means to be an active entity involved in biological, artificial, and real and virtual relationships.

Artificial, virtual forms of life are, by all standards living entities created through cooperation between nature, homo sapiens and machines. One of the definitions of the art of the 21st century is defined as “Machine of all machines”, ie Machine, creator and producer of other living artificial entities.

Some of the participants include renowned interviewed by our publication, such as Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau, Victoria Vesna and James Gimzewski, cod.act and Robertina Šebjanič.
