Event: Choreographic Coding Lab Amsterdam 2019
Choreographic Coding Lab Amsterdam 2019 is an experimental laboratory for dance and coding happening in Amsterdam from 26 to 30 May that aims to provide a research environment at the intersection of dance, choreography, digital tools, data and code.
It is organised by FIBER, an Amsterdam based interdisciplinary organisation, that presents new developments in audiovisual art, digital culture and the experimental and deeper corners of electronic music. Apart from FIBER, in the organisation of Choreographic Coding Lab Amsterdam (CCL) are involved Motion Bank and ICK Amsterdam.
CCL is a four-day interdisciplinary challenging event with workshops and masterclasses where all participants will share knowledge and dive into thought-provoking ideas.
What interesting new experiences can be brought to life when the worlds of dance and creative coding meet? How can dance data be used as a starting point for the creation of new performances and even installation art or music? What can the world of dance learn from current developments in machine learning and vice versa? Are some of the questions that participants are encouraged to reply. The CCL will translate aspects of choreography and dance into digital form and apply choreographic thinking to find the answers to these and other questions that come out during the event.
Some of the guest artists and mentors are Mária Júdová (an independent artist whose work combines the exploration of technologically informed dance practices, body movement, time and space, Danae Kleida (researcher at FIBER and Motion Bank), Anton Koch (lead developer of Motion Bank), and Joana Chicau (graphic designer, coder, researcher), among others.
A closing-evening with CCL presentations and a keynote by Dr Laura Karreman will be held on Thursday, May 30.
