Event: Art Night London 2018
Destined to be a dreamy midsummer night, from 6pm on July 7th to 6am on the 8th London will be hosting its third annual Art Night: an overnight contemporary arts festival that is completely free of charge.
Sponsored by the international auction house Phillips, Art Night is curated yearly by a different cultural institution; in its inaugural year of 2016 it was the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and this year it is the Hayward Gallery, part of the Southbank Centre.
Scattered along a trail from South Bank to Battersea Power Station, twelve projects by internationally renowned artists have been selected by the gallery to be featured during the late-night festival. Works will range from virtual reality video installations to outdoor participatory performances from established artists like Jeremy Deller, Cécile B Evans, Prem Sahib and Pierre Huyghe, among many other emerging creatives.
In addition to those works curated by the Hayward Gallery, Art Night 2018 will feature an Art Night Open, with roughly 50 different local institutions curating their own one-off exhibits and events. Pieces will range from outdoor productions to collaborative endeavours, such as the Visualogical digital workshop. These additional initiatives will flesh out the festival and showcase the great cultural and artistic diversity of both the individuals and collectives that can be found not only south of the Thames but in the city of London overall.
