Tidalectics book launch and talk, TATE Modern London, 10 December 2018

Tidalectics, Imagining an Oceanic Worldview through Art and Science. imagines an oceanic worldview, with essays, research, and artists’ projects that present a different way of engaging with our hydrosphere. Tidalectics emerges from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21) Academy, the only Western arts organization entirely dedicated to working on climate change and the oceans. The book Tidalectics provides a unique collection of the strongest voices in oceanic thinking, bridging arts, oceanography, history, law, and environmental studies.  With curator Stefanie Hessler and Markus Reymann, director and co-founder of TBA21. The first edition of the Strasbourg Biennale, Touch Me – Being a citizen in the digital age, invites you to explore the idea of citizenship in the digital era. The exhibition will portray the works of twenty internationally renowned artists who question our relationship with new technology and how the internet has profoundly affected our behaviour and society. Guangzhou Triennial, Guangdong Museum of Art (China), 21 Dec 2018 – 10 March 2019

Titled As We May Think, Feedforward, the event will “reflect on the trajectories of technological advances and their reverberations throughout the social sphere over the past decades.” Its title references an essay written by the American engineer Vannevar Bush in the summer of 1945. In the piece, Bush imagines a universal communication apparatus and anticipates the advent of an information society. The themed exhibition will present in three sections: Inside the Stack: Art in the Digital, curated by Philipp Ziegler; Evolutions of Kin, curated by Angelique Spaninks; and Machines Are Not Alone, curated by Zhang Ga. Some of the already announced names include Lawrence Lek, Gilberto Esparza, Pierre Huyghe, Charlotte JarvisLynn Hershman-Leeson and Tomas Saraceno. More info.

Blood In My Milk by Marianna Simnett, New Museum New York, until 1 June 2019

A new film and installation, in this light-, and sound-based work, Simnett makes use of narrative structures and fantastical modes of storytelling, like fables, to guide a cast of characters through events that expose the subtle mechanics of violence and control that surround us.
